All academic subjects are eligible. Fellows will be associated with Oxford for 12 months, 10 months virtually and 2 months in-person during Trinity Term.
Fellowship Details
AfOx fellowships are available to students from ALL disciplines and departments within the university. We welcome proposals from all academic areas and from any researcher situated at the University of Oxford.
AfOx Fellows is assigned to a Department and a College within the University throughout their Fellowship. Fellows can apply to work with scholars from any department at the University. AfOx is an inter-university platform that facilitates collaboration across all departments at Oxford University.
Fellowship Requirements:
To be considered for the fellowship, you must:
- Applicants must have a PhD or research equivalent.
- A legal resident of an African country who holds a position in an African academic or research institution.
- With an existing Oxford collaboration or in contact with a potential Oxford collaborator
- A success driven Fellow.

Scholarship Bonus
The appointed Fellows will receive an en-suite, single occupancy study bedroom, as well as all meals in the host College.
For the duration of the residency, a temporary University card and membership in the college Senior Common Room will be provided.
However, The fellowship will also include airfare, a visa fee, and a stipend for incidental expenses. Selection of Criteria and Duration Criteria: Applications will be evaluated primarily based on the quality and value added of the proposed research agenda, the fit between the applicant and the Oxford host, and the feasibility of the proposed activities within the fellowship timeframe.
Scholarship duration:
In addition, fellowships will last eight weeks. Start dates outside of this time frame will be considered in exceptional circumstances. Please be advised that applications will be considered in part based on the work you anticipate to complete within the timeframe you specify.
